Job Opportunity: Special Assistant to the Vice President

The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-profit policy research organization in Washington, is seeking a Special Assistant to the Vice President to fulfill a broad array of support functions. The Special Assistant's role is to provide timely and effective support to the Vice President in the management and execution of his full portfolio, including but not limited to overseeing the Center's internal operations, strategic financial planning, maintaining relationships with external partners, and leading working groups on select policy topics.
The Special Assistant's responsibilities will include:
- Advising the Vice President on invitations, speaking opportunities, meetings, etc.
- Drafting talking points, letters, notes, correspondence, etc.
- Collaborating with the Vice President on development policy issues, including providing research assistance and helping to lead working groups on select topics
- Coordination and communication with Board of Directors and other VIPs
- Providing support to the VP in his role as secretary to the Board of Directors
- Gathering information on management issues, presenting options to VP for consideration
- Liaising between the Vice President's Office and other CGD colleagues
- Serving as stand-in for the Vice President when he is unable to participate in meetings, at his direction
- Managing various in-house meeting processes and agendas
- Performing as a key player in the Vice President's fundraising initiatives, particularly with individuals and corporations
- Working with the deputy director of development on fundraising activities
- Managing the Vice President's daily activities, including but not limited to ensuring he is prepared for meetings and is provided with all information needed to perform his duties
- Advising/working with the executive office staff assistant on scheduling matters
- Performing administrative tasks and other tasks as needed
The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:
- B.A./B.S. or better
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience, preferably in a not-for-profit policy setting
- Ability to communicate effectively for CGD with senior officials and other VIPs
- Impeccable communication skills
- Very strong interest and proficiency in writing
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Flexibility and sense of humor
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of developing country issues and/or prior experience interacting with important organizational constituencies.
Salary:
Salary in the mid 30's, commensurate with education and experience. Outstanding benefits package.
